Examples of Work

In this section, I will provide information on recent and best examples of my creative work. Additionally, I will leave a link to my ‘Portfolio’ tab at the bottom of the page for any further projects.

‘Wisdom System’ Band Logo Design:

This project was for a group of people that I knew that were forming a band and had asked me if I would be able to design a few examples of logos for them to choose from.

For this project, I used my photo editing skills to create 6 different versions of a logo for the band. Additionally, I created a presentation to showcase this to the band, including information on the fonts (with license info) and colour swatches to allow the band to create a sense of identity from the logo.

Brand Dater’ Advertising Planning Project:

For another project, I created an individual mockup of an advertising campaign centred around a dating app that I named ‘Brand Dater’. This included a logo, a print advert, a storyboard for a video advert, and an online strategy plan.

As this project was a mockup, a few areas which I would need to focus on in a professional project would be finding resources with a commercial license, whereas right now the resources used were under a personal use license and so wouldn’t be allowed to be used in a monetised way. This project, however, allowed me to use photo editing skills, think about what skills I would use for video and online projects, and look in more depth at why I made certain choices rather than just designing with no purpose.

Covid-19 Short Video Project:

To practice my videography and editing skills, I worked collaboratively with a fellow student to create a video project on Covid-19’s impact on young people. To make this project more challenging, the rules were that we were only allowed to record footage on phone cameras and that we were only allowed 1 hour of pre-production time. Our intention behind this was to challenge ourselves and become more adaptable to situations with restrictions as this may be a skill required in a professional workplace.

For this project, I was the main presenter and editor whilst my colleague on this project was the main person responsible for script writing and camera work.

Music Review:

To showcase my skills in written communication, I reviewed a song by the band Paper Mill entitled ‘Bruce’. For this, I created a plan of how I was going to communicate my thoughts, and wrote a rough draft before posting this to a website called Song of the Day.

Unfortunately, the website never published my review with no reason given to me, however I was in communication with the band via Instagram to ask about this review and they were able to give me their manager’s email. The manager didn’t reply to my enquiry about an interview with the band and so this project remained only as a plan. However, I did gain valuable experience when it comes to communicating with musicians and writing reviews.

Political Broadcast Planning Project:

[DISCLAIMER: I do not in any way associate my personal views with the plan of this project, we were tasked with creating a plan for a political broadcast and thought it would be challenging to choose a far-right broadcast as this would be opposite from personal viewpoints and challenge us to think]

For this project, myself and a group of 2 fellow students were tasked with creating a plan for a hypothetical political broadcast, including a logo, slogans, and broadcasting ideas.

I was responsible for designing the logo as I feel that graphic design is a strength of mine. Changes that I would make on a more professional project would be enhancements such as making the logo with a higher aspect ratio to avoid any blurriness or rough edges. Additionally, I took a leadership role within this group project and, along with my group, was able to find a target demographic as well as finding out how this project could adhere to this demographic and how it would manage to operate.

Culture Jam:

This was a far more casual project than the rest of the projects in this section, however I wanted to create a quick example of a culture jam to satirise the US election,

This project was based on the idea that Nevada’s electoral college votes in the US election were causing a delay in finding out the result of the election, which I combined with candidate Donald Trump’s slogan of Make America Great Again. The purpose of this project was to create a comedic image out of a serious news topic, giving me experience in manipulating the genre of a text and being part of a participatory audience. In the future, I am to create more technical examples of culture jams using real life aspects such as photoshopping billboards that I have photographed.
