Burger King Advert Video Project

For our portfolio artefacts series, one of the tasks was to create a live brief as a group project. After selecting a group consisting of members with various strengths, such as editing or camerawork, we decided to attempt a live brief from the fast food company Burger King. My personal role, along with one of my other group members, was pre-production and management of areas such as copyright and branding. First, we decided that our advert needed to be easily accessible to people aged 18-24 as this was the demographic stated in the brief. Due to this, we decided to feature a young adult in this age bracket to make this advert feel more relatable. Moreover, we decided to create an additional Instagram advert alongside our main advert as part of a campaign. The reason behind this was because according to statistics, 18-24-year olds are the second largest user base on Instagram, with 30% of users being in this age group. (Statista, 2020) Furthermore, I was responsible for the branding aspect of the advert and so, in order to make this advert adhere to professional standards, I carefully studied the information packet provided by Burger King. From this, I learnt that the advert was to be based around a new slogan and service, and that Burger King adverts are required to use specific fonts and colour pallets which I made sure were followed. Whilst these aforementioned areas were, in my opinion, a success, there were also aspects of the project which were not as successful. Part of my pre-production duties had been to draft a script and storyboard in order for the project to have a clear plan. Unfortunately, due to circumstances that were out of our hands, travelling and public gatherings became restricted and we were therefore unable to complete our original plans. Due to this, we relied on stock videos with a commercial license as well as our editor creating video aspects and had to abandon part of the script. On reflection, this could have been avoided if we had been more effective with our time and had started filming as soon as our script and storyboard were done.
