Logo Design Project

As part of my portfolio artefacts project series, I undertook a role in designing logos for a new band forming in my local area known as Wisdom System. To begin this project, I started with pre-production, including sitting with the band and discussing ideas, as well as sketching some rough ideas. After this, I faced the first challenge of this project in the form of licensing. As these designs were potentially going to be used to create revenue, I needed to make sure that every resource I used was available under a ‘free for commercial use license’ as this is required in order to use third party property for the “right to use content or images in a manner that is intended for promotional, advertising, commercial, or merchandising purposes.” (Digitalist Designs, 2018) After I had ensured that I was not infringing copyright with any resources, I began the process of designing six variations of logos. This was in order to give the clients a variety of choices and to present my wide range of ability for potential future projects. These files were all formatted as PNG files in order to give background transparency for use on promotional material, social media watermarks, and more. Next, I transferred these files via Google Drive before the deadline which the client had given me and I arranged a meeting with this band in order to present my designs. For this, I created a professional presentation, including colour swatches and fonts for branding purposes, and pitched each idea to the band. This was a valuable experience as not only did I learn how to enhance my presentation skills through researching professional presentation standards, but additionally working to a deadline required me to improve my time management skills successfully as the project was completed on time and to the standard expected.
